“Isai Kalaimani” “Gaana Varshini” Subashini Muthukumar”

Isai Kalaimani Subashini Muthukumar who is popularly known as “Kovai Jikki” in the musical circles of Coimbatore. She has performed in various prestigious stages. She is basically a violinist, vocalist and lyricist. With 25 years of experience in the music field, she conducts Carnatic music classes for past 8 years. She teaches Carnatic vocal and violin for students in and around Coimbatore. Coimbatore Crown Lions Club has awarded the title “Gaana Varshini” to Ms.Subhasini Muthukumar as an appreciation for her service & SVT Pasumai Arakkattalai has awarded the title “Madhura vaani” to Subhashini Muthu Kumar.
Subhasini Muthukumar joined the Diploma course in Isai Kalaimani in 1995 at the Tamil Nadu Government Music College, Coimbatore. She took up violin as her main subject and vocal subject as her secondary subject. She got opportunities to sing light music on stage shows during her first year in college.
As her popularity grew, there has been no looking back for this talented musician. She has been participating in over 3000 music programs for 20 years. She had the great opportunity to sing with some greatest legends of Tamil music playback singing field including T.M.Soundarajan, P.Susheela, L.R.Easwari, S.P.B, Mano, Gangai Amaran, Unnikrishnan, Krishnaraj, Manikya Vinayakam, Anuradha Sriram, Chinnaponnu, Paravai Muniamma, Malathi, Gana Ulaganathan, Harish Raghavendra, Haricharan, Harihara Sudan, Mugesh, Deva, Srikanth, Deepan Chakravarthi, Surendar, etc. This versatile musicians’s debut album was a devotional album released on Mettupalyam Badhrakalimman Temple. Subhashini Muthukumar has also worked on Ad Jingles and the title song for television serials like Shakthi Thandavam, Shenbagam, etc.
Her passion for music has also seen by sharing her wisdom as a part-time music teacher in CMS School, Raman Chettiyar H.S.School, and APG matriculation H.S.School for the past 17 years. She is presently working in “Shivesh Autism” a school for the mentally challenged children, as a music trainer. It is Subhashini Muthukumar’s firm belief that music has healing powers. According to her, she is teaching these children music is the effective healer of all problems. She wants to prove that when it comes to talent, these children are no less than normal kids. She has been an instrument in motivating these children to take part in music programs, where they have praise, as well as prizes. It is her firm belief that music offers the perfect way to reach out to people and lift them to another plane, a feeling, which money cannot buy.
Subhashini Muthukumar has also been associated with the All India Radio programs. She started the Mahakavi Bharatiyar Siruvar Vanoli Mandram in 2008 and other programs such as Mazhalayar Poonga, Siruvar Ulagagam, and in the process made many children to participate in them enthusiastically. Teaching Bharatiyar songs, patriotic songs, Bhajans, Thirukural, etc have been her priority for school children. Gradually this interest drew her to reaching Carnatic music. This made her start the Sangarabharanam Music Academy on 01.04.2012 with the help of her husband Mr.Muthukumar, who is also a musician. Her husband Mr. Muthukumar teaches Veena, guitar, and keyboard. He is into film direction music composing also. Their son, Mr. M.S.Siva is also involved in the academy. He composes for short films and teaches Carnatic music and piano in the academy.
